Ok so this one is several days late, but not a dollar short! LOL
I am thankful that this post is a wee bit late because I am thankful that I have money paying job to go to. I just didn't want to say a job, because for all of my stay-at-home friends they have a job, and it pays with many different kinds of rewards. I know, I used to be one, although it was for a brief time, I know that being a stay-at-home parent is difficult and yet rewarding. God did not wire me to be a stay-at-home parent, I am wired to work outside the home, I know that, I am ok with that because one of two things would happen if I didn't work outside the home. One, either I would be sent up the river for doing harm to my kids, or I would do harm to myself by staying home with them. Do NOT get me wrong, I LOVE my kiddos dearly, but God Bless 'em, I just cannot keep up with them most days. I am having more fun with them as they get older, you know where they want to go to the movies with friends, they're not the shopping types but when we go they make it enjoyably fun! These days we live near many of their friends, so they are either gone in the neighbohood with friends (since we live in Mayberry and all) or our house is like the Waltons or The Brady Bunch 10 fold with all the kids here.
I am very thankful for my job. It allows me to teach my kids to be cautious on the internet, what to do and not to do more so than the average compter user. My job allows me to make life a little easier for those that do not have internet access at home they can come to the library and use it there, why not, its FREE!! Being in the field that I am, its hard to talk to most people some days, not just co-workers, but family and friends, not many people are comfortable talking about servers, 32- or 64- bit this and that, routing issues on networks, switch boxes, IP addresses, DHCP, stati or dynamic IPs, protocols, BIOS, PIM, WAM, ILS, SIP, MySQL, SQLServer, queries, FTP, PTP, databases such as EBSCO, Gale, Heritage Quest and so on. Not to mention file extensions like: pdf, jpg, eps, dll, rdl, xml, html, php, asp, gif and tif. Then there are the URLs that we all deal with, www. or no www. http:// https://, do we need our email in plain text or html or rich text. Is this SPAM or did our servers, email get a virus? Interfaces and GUI's, oh wait those are the same thing. I think I'll stop there, my head is spinning, LOL!!
And when dealing with databases you have to worry, do they work internally and externally? And somewhere in there I need to do hardware, but I'm not getting into all that, I mean to most people a switch is a switch, but then there are vlans, routers, etc. etc. etc. (in a yule brenner voice).
Be thankful in these times if you have a money paying job that allows you to live in a house, drive that car, go places with your family and put food on the table.
Those who are wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of a stubborn fool invites ruin.' - Proverbs 10:14
