Thankfullness Day #8

Today after church our Sunday school dept had a pot luck lunch, and man oh man we had some fantastic homemade chili and soups there today. Oh and not to mention the deserts!! My mind has been consumed with packing boxes, taking care of Abby, keeping track of the kids and David, keeping track of my assignments and checking on friends with loved ones in the hospital and hurting from other reasons – that I have been absent minded on taking photos. To this potluck we took Mississippi mud cake which Zach, Madelynne and I made before leaving for church this morning. Must have been good because there was NOTHING left of it.

So there was a purpose for this potluck other than fellowship and eating some fine home cooked grub! Our department put together Christmas show boxes for Operation Christmas Child Ministry. It was a fun time to be had by all! I wish I had the count of the overall number of boxes that we did, but that really doesn’t matter. What matters is that some children this Christmas will get some when normally they would get nothing at all. Although presents are not the reason for Christmas, HE is, Christ is the reason we celebrate Christmas, I mean after all His name is in the holiday name, CHRISTmas. But nonetheless these children will receive something for Christmas.

Our kids had fun making them and understood who they were for, which was an awesome feeling to know that they understood.

Abby and Zach gathering items for just one more box to put together. The kids had already put several together but wanted to do just ONE more before we had to leave.

There are a few verses in Matthew that make it very clear about having a giving heart opposed to wanting and keeping materialistic items. Although our children want and desire items, those lessons for them will be learned in time, we know that they will one day know that materialistic things are not necessities but wants. I am thankful that our children have giving hearts.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! “No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. – Matthew 6:19-24
