Grandpas Farm

My kids call it Grandpas Farm and I call it my parents home .... no matter what you call it, their home is located, well in what some people call the BOONIES!!

During my lifetime, I have lived in small cities, big cities, small towns, and townships. Living in the city has many perks, but living in the country does too. My parents have chosen to live in the country.

It's not just the country, it's the BOONIES!! Ron White has joked about a Hair Care & Tire Store in is comedy routine, well people, laugh all you want, but that place DOES exist. It exists in the small town my parents have their mail delivered to.

This year a few days after Christmas I loaded up the kids and took them to Texas to see my parents and family. We drove for 278 miles before we no longer saw snow. Our total round trip mileage was just over 1300 miles.

The kids did great on the trip, only had to make 4 stops on the way, one of which included the side of the road in the dark for a MUCH needed stop for the boys; after we encountered a group of pigs on the side of the road that I just knew would wander into the road and the scare by the deer that stopped dead in his tracks while I swerved to keep from hitting him if he attempted to cross the road.

The trip there was just over 8 hours. We left the house at 10 am but didn't actually leave town until 10:45a and arrived at their gate right at 7. Yes I said gate!

On the 'farm' there is no cell service, unless you hit that one spot (which is NEVER the same twice) to send or receive calls, but nothing else. I really do love spending time there, it is very relaxing, especially with the fireplace burning real tree longs and not gas logs.

There is something about the crackle of the wood and the glow of the coals and fire covered logs. I never liked cleaning up the ashes, but the good always weighs out the bad.

We don't get to visit often enough and we can't wait to go back.
